Having already visited Christchurch, Harare and Quito, it’s time for our Round the World ticket to arrive home, in the first of a series of Zoom readings featuring Scottish / UK poets, or those whose work has a Scottish theme. Today’s lunchtime event features two very different ‘what if’ narratives. US-based poet Shara McCallum will read from No Ruined Stone, a verse novel based on the real life of Robert Burns and his proposed migration to Jamaica to work on a slave plantation: ‘what would have happened had he gone?’ Hugh McMillan’s new work starts out from a fascination with historical narratives that bear only a tangential relationship to fact (if indeed such a thing exists), while playfully creating new invented narratives, because whyever not?
This ticket is for the live event in St Andrews – both poets will be appearing via Zoom, with Assistant Festival Director Annie Rutherford appearing live from the festival.
Tickets are £3 and are available from the Stanza Poetry Festival event page here: https://stanzapoetry.org/events/round-the-world-returns-home/
