Boswell Book Festival: Darren McGarvey

  • Boswell Book Festival Dumfries House Cumnock, KA18 2NJ Scotland (map)

Darren McGarvey, better known by his stage name Loki, is a writer and hip-hop recording artist (@lokiscottishrap) who has made regular media appearances as a social commentator and who works with initiatives such as Police Scotland's Violence Reduction Unit. In his inspiring, shocking and funny book, Poverty Safari: Understanding the Anger of Britain's Underclass, part memoir, part polemic, McGarvey gives voice to the feelings and concerns that are spilling over in Britain's deprived communities and in doing so throws down challenges to both the left and the right. As he says: 'People are routinely ignored by decision makers who think they know better, even when, as they were in Grenfell, they are fatally mistaken.'

Tickets for this event are £9, £7 concession, and are available through the Box Office Hotline on 01563 554 900 (Palace Theatre Kilmarnock), from Waterstones, High Street, Ayr or by clicking the 'BUY TICKETS' button here.
