Luath Press and Waterstones host the launch of Hugh McMillan's new poetry collection Heliopolis at The Stove, Dumfries.
The book comprises new work by one of Scotland's finest poets and one of Dumfries and Galloway's most prodigious native talents. After an introduction by Asif Khan, Director of the Scottish Poetry Library, there will be a reading of some of the poems. Refreshments will be served.
Hugh McMillan is an award winning poet whose poetry has been published, anthologised and broadcast widely over the last 25 years. In 2017, his poetry pamphlet Sheepenned won the Callum MacDonald prize. He was also in 2017 Writer in Residence at the Harvard Summer School. Heliopolis is his sixth full collection of poetry.
'Poems that are special, at once local, personal and universal. One of the best books of the year. Treat yourself.' Andrew Greig
'I was entertained and moved. Some of these pieces work like resonant and intricately packed short stories.' Lesley Glaister
