Join Aye-Aye Books in CCA for an evening with George Kerevan and Chris Bambery on Catalonia Reborn: How Catalonia Took on the Corrupt Spanish State and the Legacy of Franco.

Why do most people in Catalonia want independence from Spain? What is the history behind Catalonia’s struggle for independence? And why has the Spanish government employed such Draconian measures to prevent the possibility of Catalonian independence? These are questions that George Kerevan and Chris Bambery provide answers to in Catalonia Reborn: How Catalonia Took on the Corrupt Spanish State and the Legacy of Franco.

2017 saw Catalonia come under the world’s spotlight as it again fought for independence and the preservation of its unique Catalan culture. Detangling the complications behind the fight for independence, Kerevan and Bambery use the past – the rich history of Catalonia’s language, culture and political background – to explain the present, covering defining eras of the region from Franco’s dictatorship to the 2017 independence referendum and elections.

Sarah Collins from the STUC and Catalan Defence Committee will chair the event.
