The accomplished poet, storyteller and author, Martin MacIntyre will be launching his new novel during this free event at Ceòlas Symposium. Samhradh '78 follows the sometimes tumultuous relationship between two men, exploring family, community and tradition in the Outer Hebrides. After the launch audience members will get the chance to hear and discuss the work of some of the storytellers Martin recorded in Uist 25 years ago.

Ceòlas has run an annual heritage symposium to celebrates significant local people, places, events and traditions. The symposia are largely Gaelic-medium, providing participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the South Uist vernacular.

Usually taking place two weeks after the Ceòlas summer school to dovetail with the annual Agricultural Show, the symposia provide visitors and members of the community with an additional programme including talks, discussions, workshops, guided walks and evening cèilidhs.

2018 symposium: Lagh a’ Chladaich (law of the foreshore), 22-24 July, an t-Ìochdar. The programme and leaflet for the 2018 symposium is available here: Lagh a’ Chladaich. Admission to the book launch is free and all are welcome.
