Book Launch: Am Balach Beag a dh'Éisteadh aig Dorsan by Alison Lang

  • Quaker Meeting House 7 Victoria Street Edinburgh, Scotland, EH1 2JL United Kingdom (map)

Gaelic writer and translator Alison Lang presents her new book Am Balach Beag a dh'Éisteadh aig Dorsan (The Little Boy Who Listened at Doors).

The island is full of stories, and Tormod hears them everywhere – at home, at school, and from Ruairidh next door. There are stories about Roman legions and enchanted tweed coats and men carried off by brutal pressgangs and self-proclaimed bards who would steal a song right out of your mouth. And then there are the stories he isn't supposed to hear, and maybe one of them will explain a few things that puzzle him, like why he doesn't have a father. Stories can change with every telling, and a little boy's innocence can't last forever.

Alison Lang began writing articles for Cothram and television reviews for The Scotsman before branching out into fiction. Cainnt na Caileige Caillte, her first collection of short stories, was shortlisted for the Saltire Society's first book of the year award in 2009, and her novel An Aisling was highly commended in the 2014 Donald Meek awards.

The event, introduced by Shelagh Campbell of the Gaelic Books Council, will be followed by a Q&A and book signing opportunity.
