Long described as the leading authority on Highland games, Webster has participated in sport for over fifty years. He was a champion in his own right and a sports administrator at the highest level in Sports Councils and local authorities. He is still organising and commentating at Highland gatherings in every continent and his voice has been heard at many hundreds of Games in Scotland and all over the globe. Webster officiated at Olympic Games in Rome, Mexico City and Munich and has served on the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland since 1957 as section manager and coach, Chairman, General Team manager and Chief of Mission in Malaysia. He is now the Councils Life Vice President.
He has received many national and international honours including investiture as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace in 1995.
A prolific writer his books on Highland games have proved very popular.
