Details
The Knights Templar and Rosslyn Chapel have recently been catapulted to Hollywood fame, with the knights' activities at the small Scottish town of Roslin proving to be a source of many conspiracy theories due to the chapel's alleged involvement in the holy grail legend. ""The Rosslyn Templar"" avoids well worn grail legend, instead providing new research concentrating on the symbolism of R.T. McPherson's 1836 painting, ""Templar Knight at Roslin Chapel"".McPherson's recently discovered painting is the earliest material evidence linking the Knights Templar to Rosslyn Chapel. Cowie presents an engaging discussion of the painting, the history of Freemasonry and the architecture of Rosslyn, opening up new artistic evidence for a connection between the Templars, Freemasons and Rosslyn. This beautifully produced book contains detailed photographs of the interior and exterior of the chapel making it appealing to academic enthusiasts and visitors to the chapel alike, especially as public photography has been banned in the building since 2007.

Author Bio Ashley Cowie grew up in the Caithness town of Wick, in the north of Scotland. He then moved to Glasgow to study photography and audio visual communications. After returning north and establishing a number of businesses Cowie began exploring his interest in archaeology and cryptography. He has been commissioned to investigate and decode several ancient carved symbols for historical and research societies, including a group of Scottish Knights Templar. The author of The Rosslyn Matrix (2007) he also lectures on The International Science Festival circuit and was featured on The Discovery Channel in April 2008.
Back Cover Copy In 2005, a curious painting was sold at auction in Edinburgh. Hidden in a private collection for 154 years, Templar Knight at Roslin Chapel was completely unknown to Grail and Templar scholars. It is the only tangible evidence suggesting a connection between Rosslyn Chapel and the mysterious medieval Order of Knights Templar about whom so many legends have arisen. Yet the painting contravenes the binding rule of secrecy insisted upon by the Templar Grand Masters, opening up as many questions as it does answers. Who is the enigmatic Knight Templar in the painting and why was he painted in the chapel when such a record was strictly forbidden by the Templars? What ritual is depicted in the painting and what do the many symbols surrounding the Knight mean? Where does the staircase lead - a staircase that no longer exists in present-day Rosslyn Chapel? Could this be evidence that the alleged subterranean vaults beneath the chapel do exist? The Rosslyn Templar is not a Grail-hunting story. It provides both a brief history of the Knights Templar for novices, and a study of the painting that will revolutionise investigation into the secrets of Rosslyn Chapel and its connection to the Knights Templar.
