Blind Harry's Wallace is the first 20th century edition of the original
Braveheart story, edited and introduced by Elspeth King, Director of the Stirling Smith Art
Gallery and Museum. The book is illustrated with original, vigorously-executed linocuts by Scottish
artist Owain Kirby. The epic verse of Blind Harry is the main source on the life of Wallace, written around 1477. Blind Harry gathered stories
and traditions of Wallace from all over Scotland and
sang or recited his verse.
From the early Braveheart cult, to the most modern, Lin Anderson's new book, Braveheart: From
Hollywood to Holyrood, due out in 2005, marks the 10th anniversary of the
blockbuster film Braveheart, and looks at how it became one of the most politically influential films
ever and made Wallace a global figure.
