Nothing But Heather!

The title Nothing But Heather! is a quote from the great Scottish poet Hugh MacDiarmid. Full-colour images accompany equally vivid and discerning poems by Gerry Cambridge, until recently the writing fellow at Brownsbank Cottage, Hugh MacDiarmid's former home. Of course, the title is ironic. Scotland has a wonderfully rich natural heritage, but more often than not the focus of visitors, writers and photographers is on the grander aspects of landscape. Gerry Cambridge looks closely and intently at the 'smaller' world of insects, small animals, birds and plants and the result is a memorable collection of images. He is one of Scotland's most gifted poets, and his word pictures are similarly original and intriguing.
