Not Nebuchadnezzar

This is a biography, of sorts, and a description of the all-consuming search for that elusive concept known as 'identity'.

Jenni Calder was born Jennifer Rachel Daiches to a Scottish-born mother and English-born Jewish father in Chicago, one of America's great melting-pot cities. This book traces her journey from then to now, a journey that has taken her from America to Scotland via Cambridge, Israel and Kenya, with stops all over the world along the way during her travels as a writer. Throughout her travels, Calder discovers that 'knowing who she is' is only the first step - her true sense of identity develops from finding out who she is not.

This idea of who you are not informing your identification of who you are, and the struggle to find and establish one’s identity, will be understood by displaced people and those without the traditional idea of 'roots' from around the world.
