Getting It Together

On 29 March 1999 the Campaign for a Scottish Parliament, which had been established as the Campaign for a Scottish Assembly on 1 March 1980, met for the last time. At that dissolution Bob McLean, the Campaign’s Vice Convener, was asked to undertake a history of the organisation. This is it.

There are several books on the often rocky road to Scottish home rule. The purpose of this particular account is a detailed record of one of the organisations campaigning for Scottish democracy. Drawn largely from primary sources it is essential reading for students of Scottish home rule and pressure group politics.

Getting It Together was a favourite catch phrase coined by the late Jim Boyack. As convener, Jim held the organisation together during difficult and frustrating times. This book is dedicated to his memory, and to the efforts of all of those campaigned for a Scottish Assembly, or Parliament, with such powers as desired by the people of Scotland.
