Award winning photographers Ross Gillespie and Tricia Malley are among Scotland's most experienced and insightful photographers. They have worked together for almost 20 years under the name of broaddaylight and have an instinctive eye for capturing the character and personality behind their subject. Tricia's background as a documentary photographer combined with Ross's background as an illustrator has created an almost unique collaboration which allows art to frequently and successfully mimic life in a seriously powerful fashion. They have an enormous capacity for empathy with their subjects and as a result get well below the superficial. As a result, their portraits tell more than just the immediate story.

To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns they have produced a publication featuring a series of portraits of Scots and adopted Scots prominent in their field. Each sitter has been asked to produce a small body of text as a response to a Burns quote of their choosing, communicating their own view of the relevance of Burns today. With introductory essays and texts by Julie Lawson of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Prof. David Purdie the resultant body of work featuring images and texts by Eddi Reader, Aamer Anwar, Peter Howson, Christopher Brookmyre, Hardeep Singh Kohli and Clan Chief Sir Malcolm MacGregor of MacGregor to name but a few is a celebration of Scottish culture, reflecting and conveying through words and pictures the work of this extraordinary man and his relevance today not only to the people of Scotland but to a wider audience.

The As Others See Us Exhibition will be open to the public at The Scottish Parliament from 22 January to 14 February, before beginning a nationwide tour. If you would more details about the exhibition please visit broaddaylight's website.
