JOHN CAIRNEY

John Cairney thumbFor over thirty years JOHN CAIRNEY has been recognised as the embodiment of Burns thanks to his portrayal of the poet in the 1968 Scottish TV production Burns. He has delivered toasts ‘To the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns’ or performed his Burns one-man-show in almost every country in the world.
Since 1990 Cairney has lived in Auckland, New Zealand. He has written two autobiographies and is still very much in demand as a lecturer, writer and consultant on all aspects of Burns. John has also tackled other Scottish great, the artist and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and writer Robert Louis Stevenson.

Luath Burns CompanionThe Luath Burns Companion

This collection is not another 'complete works' but a personal selection from John Cairney. The collection includes sixty poems, songs and other works; and an essay that explores Burns' life and influences, his triumphs and tragedies. This informed introduction provides the reader with an insight into Burns's world.

Immortal MemoriesImmortal Memories of Robert Burns

The annual Burns Supper, held on or around his birthday, January 25, has become something of a cult in virtually every country in the world where ‘Scottish' is spoken - and even where it is not. This is an occasion when people gather around a dinner table to give tribute to a Scottish poet who died more than two hundred years ago. It really is an extraordinary phenomenon.

Quest for CRMThe Quest for Charles Rennie Macintosh

Though recognised even in his own day as a genius, Rennie Macintosh was by no means a pre-Raphaelite plaster cast saint of high morals and mystic vision. He was a flesh and blood charmer, who attracted women as much as he irritated men, enjoyed a drink to a sometimes excessive degree and was known for his explosive temper and black moods.

Quest for RLSThe Quest for Robert Louis Stevenson

A compelling read shedding new light on the complicated life of the man behind the famous stories - Treasure Island, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Kidnapped.
